Keep Calm and Party On!

The 29th will be Kate and Wills 1st anniversary.  Last year their wedding gave us all an extra day off, and provided retailers the opportunity to make some more sales from all those royal celebrations going on up and down the country, and this year those parties are bound to be even bigger and even more British! By the looks of things many major retailers are hoping so, as stores from Next, M&S, to market traders are full of Union Jack memorabilia, and with the Olympic games not more than a hop, skip and jump on from the Jubilee it’s surely now the time to be patriotic, if you ever will be.

Here at The Dressing Room we have been pondering for some time whether to jump on the royal band wagon and stock our shelves high with bunting, flags and all things Union Jack, should we panic buy bulk quantities of Union Jack paraphernalia? Panic not, we do have a broad selection of Union Jack Items , yes we will be waving the flag, but we have alongside the Union Jack branded items some classically British Costumes, like our Pearly King and Queen to party alongside the guy in the Union Jack morph suit. So people of Canterbury, we are ready for the celebrations, are you? If not pay us a visit and we’ll see what we can do.

Today we had a group of students in who are dressing up for their friend’s birthday which happens to be on the 29th.  They are all dressing up as people who were at Kate and Wills wedding, fab idea! They have Kate, Will, the Queen, Police, Victoria Beckham, Elton John and a Nun amongst others. So maybe for your Jubilee celebrations you could dress up as a member of the Royal Family. Pop in to the shop and see if we can help, I’ll have to get cracking on a corgi costume…. Remember Keep Calm and Party On!!

National Horror Service

So, last week we went to Smiffy's HQ. Smiffy's is one of the largest suppliers of fancy dress in the UK and although it only being April we are already planning for Halloween!! Yes, Halloween, already, that's enough to send a shiver down my spine let alone the sight of the new range of horror they had on display in their showroom.
We've never visited their showroom before, but it was a good way to see the new costumes and try to anticipate what will be hot for Halloween. We ordered lots! Lots of masks, lots of white facepaint and lots and lots of blood! Here's hoping we don't run out this year...actually here's hoping we do!!! For us the scariest thing about Halloween is the fear that we won't sell all the things we have ordered.

We stock costumes and accessories from many different companies but our favourites from smiffys for Halloween 2012 has to be the N.H.S range. National Horror Service.....

I think the Dressing Room crew may be donning a selection from this range this year, costume, make up and plenty of blood, we shall see. Alongside the gory Dr's and nurses we also have flesh suits, which look as though you have been skinned alive and x-ray morph suits.

As always there will be plenty of variety and plenty of blood!!!

Sorry if this is a bit to early on the gory front, bit of a contrast from the weekend full of fluffy bunny's and Easter chicks we have just had but we are excited, very excited!

See you in October but we hope before!!

Looking for Prince Charming

So this is our first ever blog!! We've been opening the doors of our fancy dress shop since the summer of 2006 and although it is not quite summer yet today we do indeed have our door wide open. The sun is shining, the sky is blue but unfortunately customers today are few.

So today I've decided to focus on creating new costumes for our shop. Sometimes this is starting a costume from scratch, just material, scissors, sewing machine, and go.. but today as space is limited in our shop and I'm itching to get going I've been sourcing items from the web from which we can peice a costume together. So today, I've bought some gold fabric, a french flag, and a blue patent belt and these items alongwith an old Napolean Hire jacket and few other bits and bobs will hopefully form something like this....

Prince Charming!
Hopefully I'll be blogging about this costumes first outing in a few weeks.
